I received this interesting Transylvanian thaler several days ago which has the look and feel of an authentic coin but it is significantly underweight (this year doesn't seem to ever go below 27g) and doesn't sound like silver. Could it be a contemporary counterfeit or something else? Any help is appreciated.

42.6-43.5mm
25.51g
doesn't ping correctly
edge is smooth

@ag, first welcome to CCF. Second, the color on your first pic looks off, but the others make less sure what you there. Any chance you providing the specific gravity of this piece? Thx.

If it was my piece, to me, the very first important thing is to find out if it is silver or not.
I'm not sure that can be easily done by just looking at pictures.
I'm not experienced with coins like this, but the images do resemble a cast fake.

I apologize for the late reply. I agree the first image looks strange but the coin is closer in color and overall appearance to the other ones. I've had some trouble with the SG test but the most accurate results I got are 10.08-10.16. The ping still makes me doubt that it's silver though
