Hey Everyone,
This 1944 S penny appears to have two large die gouges across the reverse of the coin. What makes this coin particularly interesting is the die gouges apparently didn't occur at the same time.
When trying to do some research on the coin I was able to find an
ebay listing where someone was selling a 1944 S coin with the exact same gouge that appears through the O but that doesn't yet have the parallel gouge that appears on the coin through the N.
It looks as though the same issue impacted the die at least twice and I have the later progression. That's unless there's a different explanation for these raised areas. Thoughts?
