Here's an 1874 Trade dollar I just picked up from Harlan J. Berk for my 7070. There are a couple fairly heavy obverse rim dings that are not as obvious in hand as the pictures show. The pictures were taken under natural sunlight & are fairly good representations of the color. I'm looking for grading opinions.

I think this coin would grade EF-45.

XF-45 was my first thought, too.

I lean towards EF, but it might be XF.

HJB had it described as an EF40 with rim bumps. I thought it was priced right, & my 7070 looks a little better with another hole filled.

I think you did well -- I like EF40 as a net grade because of the dings in the rim. However, because you are putting it in your 7070, the dings should be somewhat hidden.

It appears that I would agree with HJB but the rim bumps are small enough that they would be less noticeable in an album.
