When handling my Proof LWCs, LMCs and LSCs I have always tried to be super careful handling coins by the edges while wearing white cotton gloves. Hell, I even wear a mask so I don't inadvertently spray an open page with saliva if I'm talking. (Had it happen. I think. Only logical explanation for the mess I discovered one day.) Earlier today I opened my package of my new 2022 P, 2022 D and 2022 S Proof. My 2019 W Proof was in the way so I removed it from my Dansco album and moved it to the next page. After the move I noticed a new really fine scratch on it. I think it was from when I pushed it into its new hole. How do you guys prevent this from happening? I had thought I was doing everything right.

If you think that your inspection gloves caused the scratch then perhaps you are re-using them? If so, then it's time to replace them. If they were brand new and had been stored in a way such that they didn't have any dust settle on them, then you should consider storing your proofs differently so that they don't even have to get handled more than once, right? I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know though.

Always an iffy proposition handling fresh proof coins. I agree with Spence above.

I use thin, powder free latex gloves when handing special coins. I replace them everytime so I don't have to worry about scratching the coins with the gloves or foreign materials on dirty gloves. Although I don't regularly handle proof copper, this is the strategy I use on all coins.

Best way to press proof coins into an album would be to use lint free cloths the kind they use for wiping eyeglasses.

Proof bronze coins should be handled using gloves and masks.
These are the only coins I handle in this way.

Handle proof silver on the edge (gloves normally not needed), but because COVID masks are so readily available, nothing wrong in using them for handling proof coins.

I don't bother with any of these precautions, because almost of my coins are enclosed in 2x2's as soon as I get them.
That how it it is with most coin dealers, and that's quite OK by me.

Stop worrying about that. In a few hundred years they will all be spent by some distant relative.
