Looks like a Dryer Coin to me. Note the rounded rims. Measure it with another quarter. It will be smaller and thicker than a normal quarter. The coin was altered. Not a cull and probably won't be accepted in a vending machine.

Yeah, it should be the size of a nickel if it were struck on a nickel; it may have been part of a bezel.

It's the same thickness as a nickel but slightly bigger weighs 5.5g

It's too heavy for a nickel and nickels are an alloy. Your quarter has been clad just like a regular quarter.

Spooned to remove the reeding. the surfaces looks way too undamaged to have been in a dryer.

I do not think it is spooned. A spooned edge has divots and this edge is smooth. Dryer Coin, maybe. Not an error in any advent. John1

Clearly not a nickel planchet with the copper clad showing on the edge!

To show that quarters do reduce in size in a commercial clothes dryer. Look at these examples:

The longer the ride in the dryer, the more damaged the coin becomes. Your coin took a short ride. Same thing happened. Not a mint error. Just PSD.

still think it is a spooned coin, someone took great care to keep it as smooth as possible. (I can see slight dimples on it.)

I tend to agree with the spooned assessment. And of course, we're looking at a clad coin, so it can't be a nickel planchet. If coins could talk.
