I have to say I love the look of this coin.
It is not my coin and is in A old ANACS Holder. Seller pics.
Curious if you all think this will straight grade if I try and bust it out and send to NGC or PCGS.
Coin appears to have good luster under and around the toning but has alot of dark blue and purple on the obverse.
What say you?
I am still honing my Trade dollar skills.
I think it will but want all your thoughts.
They want a little much for it but may try to get them down some.

Some wear on the high points, luster break in the fields. AU-55, good eye appeal.

I'll say AU-53. Toning does not especially appeal to me.

I am at AU53 and the coin should straight grade at NGC or PCGS. Do not overpay as this is a common date and there are lots of examples to choose from.

There's a lot to like about this coin but I'm not a fan of the obverse toning with the dark toning except for the diagonal stripe. Visually you can't avoid this. Unless you get a good discount I would hold off for a better one.

Personally I love the look . Is 500 fair? It seems like that's in the ball park . Even on auctions with fees that about what I've seen

AU53 for me. $500 seems high, a bit closer if you're taking into account what you'd pay in BP from a major auction house.

sorry all I meant 500.00 shipped. I saw a AU-50 on heritage a few weeks back go for 425 not including premium so would be 500 shipped on that.
I will give the grade on this tomorrow.

Well I bit . I have been eyeing this for a month and they took 95.00 off the asking price. They have return privy if it looks worse but I just loved the colors so her she comes.

I kind of like the sunbeam effect. Beyond that I don't know how to grade these, seems mid-AU to this novice.

This might come back with "questionable toning", can't tell from pics. Why not just buy one already graded, these are abundant.

@Jimbucks its graded in A Old ANACS soapbox holder. Probably why it's so toned.

I have a Trade dollar with an almost exact appearance, toned heavily on the obverse and little toning on the reverse. The only difference is that mine has an old cleaning and yours looks original. I especially like the reverse, with the slight toning and luster. I don't think the toning came from the soapbox holder.

Oh. Personally, I think that old ANAC soapbox holders generally represent a good value. Every coin I've cracked out of them has come back from PCGS at the same or slightly higher grade. These days, I would probably leave in the holder unless it is clearly undergraded, but that's just what I would do. I suspect this is an AU-53 coin, possibly AU-55 by today's standards. If you like the coin buy it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I do love the old ANACS Holders I have quite a few Morgan's in them . They just don't store as easy in my holders so I may send many to PCGS to try and crossover and if they do not to ANACS to reholder in the new ( Blue holders)

You made a good buy on a nice original example. The small AMACS is nice holder that is accurately graded at today's standards. You may want to send in the coin to cross at PCGS or NGC and not crack out.
