I've had this since the mid to late 90's , person I bought it from didn't know much about it either he had the 2x2 labeled 1958 Dot , been wondering about it for a long time. There is a "dot" between United and States. The camera I used is new and I'm still figuring out the lighting.

Looks like a die chip. It is very common though this is a strange place for me to see one on an American coin, Canadian coins have several "dot" coinage where a die chip ended up separating devices but it's still just a die chip. That said it does look a little weird to me so could be added.

Is the dot feature raised or incuse? If raised, it's likely a die chip.

The dot feature is raised.

It may be a common thing but it got my attention by being in an interesting spot.

I'm using a Tomlov USB microscope for the pics and still figuring it out but it's exactly what I wanted.

Note the weakening of the dies devices from die polishing and die wear. So the die was starting to break down at this point. Thus it isa die chip that you are seeing. Just a face value coin though. Not a premium for this.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

I've never looked for or sought after any type of die doinks so this was and is my first one.
