Hello, my name is kenneth c. I was curious about this penny and felt it's too shiny to be 1961. Maybe a proof I'm thinking. Any thoughts on this coin?

. Not a proof. Proofs were only minted in San Fransico which would be a S mint mark. Yours has a D mint mark which means it was minted at Philadelphia. Please properly rotate photos before posting, thanks. Your coin might be coated with something like shellac or might just be in really nice condition. Let's wait for more members to chime in.

Again, .

Proofs 1964 and earlier were all Philadelphia issues, and 1968 and later are San Francisco so your D minted cent can't be a proof. I just think this coins amazing luster is really popping here, making it look very shiny.

Looks like a minimally circulated '61 D in high AU condition--certainly not a proof. I have a couple tubes full of these--nice and shiny. Would be good to see a pic of the reverse. Thanks.
Rest in Peace

I'm reasonably certain that you meant minted at Denver not Philly, right? (I hope)

EDIT: Oops, I saw your post John, then dropped down to the post box and entered my reply - THEN went back and read the other replies, of which this was already addressed..
