Quick question, what is the best source to find appropriate pricing on a coin? Greysheet? For example, say I want to purchase a F12 Draped Bust Half Cent. What is the best source to obtain a good price for said coin? I know I could just go through ebay sold listings, but is there a "Go To" source you guys use? Obviously Red Book and coin publications just list retail values which are way too high. I'm looking for general coins as well, not high end valuable pieces. Thanks!

I use ebay sold 99% of the time. A dealer gave me a used greysheet so I use that rarely.

It's not free after the trial, but I use the Greysheet CPG pricing (slightly high most of the time), coupled with NumisMedia http://www.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices/fmv.shtml, and ebay sold pricing. That gets me in the ballpark. Then I decide how much I really like the coin to see if I will ever break over that, since I am collecting for myself and not dealing.

I use multiple sources to price coins. On raw coins, I mostly use ebay sold. On coins in a TPG holder, I use PCGS and NGC to get the retail level and I also use examples sold at auction at Stacks, GC and Heritage. If the example has a CAC sticker, I will look at the CAC price guide. I have a 2018 Red Book that works well to get a ballpark price in today market.

I didn't know there was one for free access.

Over the years, surprisingly, I've found Coin World's Coin Values quite accurate. Even compared to the ebay sold prices. The only major variances I've noticed are from the auction houses, which are highly unpredictable. So that's what I use.

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the following two FREE sources for coins graded by the two major TPG's. Keep in mind, guides are only guides. Auction prices realized better reflect RECENT real prices paid, including thousands of low priced coins. Photos of those sold coins can be seen, which is important, since coins are not commodities. Coins with nicer eye appeal usually sell for more than coins in the same date and grade with much less positive eye appeal. Both of the following have great filters, so you can drill down to the grade you want (including looking at only grades with a "+" if you want) with copper coins the colored suffix (BN, RB, RD), etc. 1. The PCGS website has great filters, allowing one to see auctioned coins graded by both PCGS and NGC, or limited to coins only graded by PCGS. Same for coins with CAC stickers. You can see results for the grade of all coins, or only those with CAC's. 2. While the PCGS site includes results for auctions from Heritage, Stacks, Legends, DLRC, and Goldberg's, they are not provided auction results from Great Collections, which auction thousands of coins every week. As such, a critical search should also include the free availability at GC. Their filters are top notch too. Steve
