I have a 1979 s proof type 1 it seams to me the back field of this penny is not the mirror finish it should be anyone no why the penny weight is 3.1 grams thanks for any help you can give

That is the normal weight for the coin. It looks like it may have been stored improperly, causing the files to get hazy.

sure doesn't look like a proof, huh? but the cameo is there. As stated above improper storage could have dulled out the mirror finish. And as to your question a 1979 cent will weigh 3.11g. that is the nominal weight of them.

Thanks for thoughts there are a very few spots you can see the mirror finish wasn't sure if it was a striking error or something else

An impaired proof. Spent because of the issue with the surface of this coin. Even in the highest grade, it is not worth being slabbed:

Note the value? $18 dollars. Someone spent $50 to have it slabbed. Grading sites are make all the money on these. ($32 loss to the customer)
