Why are the two images exactly alike? There is split plating showing on some of the devices on UNITED. The Ridge Ring is starting to rise near the rim area:

This is just starting on the devices areas on the strike of your coin. (a die issue)

Need a close-up photo of the possible doubled ear.You can also use the search box here on CCF for doubled ear.

Try making a side by side with a normal coin image and this image to compare if the area is showing spread, or a contact mark on the ear. Se wee a lot of these assumed to be doubled ears, but are not. So of the images are cropped exactly the same and sized you will be able to see what the difference is. An incuse mark (damage) or a raised area on the ear design/field. (a doubled die) Then post them here to show what you learned form this exercise. side by sides are handy for many things.
Comparing devices sizes:

Doubling differences from two different doubled dies:

Note how this one looks the same. But when you study it, then you start to see the differences.

On the previous example, the date areas are totally different.

So make side by sides work for you. They can be educational or just used for private study. creating these can be a lot of fun and helps train the eyes to spot differences. Something I use a lot for educational purposes. I use a lot of images and on my host now, I have 13K+ images for different situations.

CoopHome: Side by sides? Are they worth the effort. They help train the eyes to see, what we are looking for, easier.
