Hey Everyone,
I found this 1981 D half dollar that appears to have a strike through error on the obverse. The Y in liberty along with the ST of trust are almost completely missing. What I find interesting is that the strike through has created an incuse region of the coin's field and it even impacted the coin's rim. My main question is can a grease strike through reduce the size of a coin's rim or does the rim reduction on this coin suggest the strike through is from something other than grease?

Thanks!

Looks like a Greaser. Best to take pics straight on,not at an angle.

Probably a Greaser, not convinced. Better pics would help.

I don't recall seeing Struck Through Grease involvement in the rim previously. Very interesting.

Sorry for the weird angle. My microscope isn't tall enough to fit a full half dollar in a single shot head-on so I either have to take it at an angle or detach it and try to do it by hand. I've added a few more pictures including one of the rim where the strike through occurred. It doesn't appear significantly impacted other than a small divot at the strike through location.

The weight? It looks so far like a struck through debris of debris with fiber/grease/gunk.

If the weight is normal, then 11.34 grams, then it looks like a struck through issue. Does the coin appear to be straight/not bent? it might be minor struck through debris issue. Probably not much demand for this. More of a distraction than a premium for this. But from the images so far that is what I feel we are looking at on your coin. If the coin is bent at all, then it could be a PSD coin.

Thanks Coop!
I just checked and it is 11.30g. Also, it sits completely flat when resting on another half dollar so no bend to it. The only noticeable difference when against another coin is that divot where the strike through occurred.
