I found a 1970s penny with THE DATE double die. I saw on on PCGS in worse condition but the double die on it was on LIBERTY. I am going to send it to PCGS see how well I fair.
Don't bother sending it in, that is Machine Doubling, a worthless type of doubling. Look at the mint mark, you can't have a Doubled Die on it as it was hand punched .
Typical Machine Doubling seen on the 1968-1972 cents. The affected areas are where the contour that was on the devices, was moved/hammered away from the lower flat 90 Degree angle that the Machine Doubling creates. Metal/machine movement alters the copper devices. Not a doubled die.
