The concern for the over annealed planchets is more of a Black in color. The over cooked ones. These will normally be different colors depending on how long they were annealed. The 'Black Beauties' are solid planchets. The clad ones would probably distort with bubbles like the examples of a house fire. So I don't know if there is a market for something that happens on a normal basis?

This it is a normal toning for modern clad coins. The annealing do not exist anymore, the annealing is done during the cut of the blanks due to the new cutting laser technology. COOP is right, if something go wrong the blanks will be petrol black color.

I would have to agree that this is just toning - but why did it tone out so quickly?

Agree with the above--a matter of environmentally-caused toning. I've seem this at times with other 'new' quarters. I wouldn't slab any unless they fall in the MS67 or better range. Just my opinion

toning can be accelerated by heat, so perhaps this coin sat in a mint bag stored in a hot area for some time before being rolled and distributed

Well I have to disagree with some of you respectfully, There are several articles that state different opinions about the Annealing process and yes today it still happens. Here is one article https://markedmoney.tech/tag/improp...arter-error/ They may not bring a premium yet they do sell for anywhere from $5-$20.00 in raw condition on ebay. The article also states it is not a great idea to have them graded because one will make a better profit selling them raw. So based on several articles Annealing issues still happen. This hobby is all about what one likes to collect, low end to high end and inbetween. So some of the so called experts disagree with some of you. With my understanding of this process these are not enviormentally toned coins. PCGS, NGC, and other grading companies reconize these coins as errors. With that being the case they may be collectable to some and not others. Isn't that what makes this hobby so great, there is something for everyone.

Your site you put is write by who. No name, no address and just some small copy from real sources, but not complete. Even there all the color show are not you coins color. Many sell those like annealing errors and are not. You want to go for money?, go you are free and hope to have the fish who catch on. Here I attach an document and not an article by no name which explain the new technology of annealing. Your site you put show an small (probably private minting medals or ever). Before the annealing line took 2 and 1/2 feet large line of blanks in the heating stove. Mint line production. Here the document which I hope will give you more vision about how the Mint work and they study each year. Lot of study on and read and you will find the study of pre your coins struck and which it is in place from 2019: Enjoy. https://www.usmint.gov/wordpress/wp...12-08-31.pdf

Silviosi, Thank you for the information, It is an interesting read if on can get through it all.. Still haven't found the section on Improperly Annealed coins. Need more reading time. Still the fact is PCGS, NCG and other grading companies grade improperly Annealed coins. Which means they either exist or they are lying to individuals and providing a fake grading service. Which I doubt. I have seen several graded coins from these grading companies at coin shows. So I guess the best way to prove a point is to have my coins sent in to be graded. Here are a few examples of graded improperly annealed coins. enjoy! https://www.ebay.com/itm/334425640234 https://www.ebay.com/itm/304240987159 This one is very simular in color to my Sally Ride Quarter, https://www.ebay.com/itm/234330770187

On 15 of this month I will go for. Here in Quebec, Canada will open for pike and north walleye. Hope to be OK. Look, the expression go fishing it is proverbial and mean: When you open a business you make marketing to sell your products, so this marketing it is exact like fishing: good lure, better catch; wrong one, miss the time and all what you invest. Second it is that in the invest you go by what you read, speculations, evaluations and very important your own filling (the most important). So in conclusion I say: Go with your fillings also, and I will be happy to hear was good and success. The document it is long and has many information's. After 1 of July when I go out of the business with the Mints, I hope to have enough power to put in one place all those years or decades documents. I know will broke many folk thinking, but for the sake of this hobby I want to do.

Here is my 100 cents on this topic I just got 3 of these 4 back today. I found them all in a brand new box of 2021 Washington Crossing Delaware quarters that I got from my bank last year. I graded them because this is a hobby for me and I wanted to confirm the error.

Very nice MrBreeze. Yes your show annealing, look at the black color or how we say dark petroleum color. The coins of this post do not show same characteristics like your coins.
