Hello again! I am struggling still with trying to grade on my own. I have a very pretty red 1973 Lincoln Cent that to me looks like AU58 or so. My pics are still awful but hopefully you can see some details. It looks almost new to the naked eye and a very pretty copper red. Thank you! (Learning to use new image uploader!)

Pics are either too dark or too bright to see surface details clearly.

When I compare your coin to pictures on PCGS photo grade is see more wear on the high points around the ear, bow tie and lapel then an AU 58. I can also see wear over the middle columns and stairs. I'm looking between Au 50 & 55.

Ah, I see. yes the ear is very noticeable. I find it very hard to grade, still. This is helpful. Thank you!

It's much easier for me when I'm building my sets to clump these low value coins into categories. G,vg,f,xf,Au,bu, and choice bu. Get comfortable with doing that and you have a great start at grading. No need to get caught up in the difference between au50 and au58 until significant dollar value is involved. This is how I started to learn grading and now 10 plus years later as I attempt to upgrade my circulated sets I am finding it much easier to notice more nuances within the categories but ultimately even now I still don't need to get zero'ed in on the exact number. A nice Au coin is just that and worth the price on it, just as a nice vf would be for a more expensive coin.
