Can anyone tell me what happened with this quarter? Most of it is the normal silver color but there are areas on the front and back that are copper colored. Unfortunately the pictures don't quite do it justice regarding the stark contrast between the two colors. It doesn't appear that it is paint or something similar causing the copper color.
@max, there does seem to be a stark contrast between the two colors of surface toning and that looks pretty cool. It is impossible to know how this damaged occurred, but a couple scenarios that come to mind is being buried in soil with different areas of reactivity or have something stuck to the surface like glue while being exposed to chemicals. The glue would have acted like a mask to blunt the toning process.
