New to Canadian coinage. Is there a better way to determine near vs far variety. I think my photos are good but the right side might need to still go lower by a fraction.

Just compare the 9-3 gap with the 3-2 gap and the gap between the 2 and the leaf. If they are all the same (or about so), then you have a "near". When the 2 to the leaf gap is much wider than the 3-2 gap, then you have a "far" Yours is "near".

If it can help:
Red guides are the usual reference provided to identify this variety.
Yellow guides are an easier way to spot the position of the 2.
A line between the top of the 3 go directly to the bottom of the leaf without been blocked by the 2.
Notice the gap between the 3 and the 2 too. Nearer and slightly rotated...
If you have the feeling at first sight the 2 touch the rim, it's a good indication.
