Howdy all,

I've had this for a while and was thinking about finally sending for grading. I've been reading a lot about fakes so thought I'd send a couple of pics and get some opinions first. Sorry for photo quality. I need a new micro camera also, in case anyone has suggestions on that.
Thanks!

Free opinion: counterfeit.
I do not like that the lettering, particularly on the reverse, do not have flat bottoms.
The black gunk in the recesses is also an indication of a fake.

How did you obtain this coin?

Hair, eagle's feathers, etc., seem to have a "washed out" appearance. If you have access to an XRF (coin shop or metal buyer) it would be good to determine if it is silver or not. Some people use what is called a "ping" test, but I try not to make a habit of dropping my silver dollars...

Ahhh, yes. I see what you mean. I didn't know that useful piece of info about the bottoms of letters. I just checked the difference between the one I sent and another Morgan I have here at my desk and the difference is clear to see.

Thanks much!

Agree it does not look genuine. Please include a photo of the entire obverse without cutting off the date and rims.

Unfortunately, I need to buy a new camera ( or taller stand at least). :-) I can't get a complete Morgan into view while camera is held on the stand. I hope this isn't the wrong sub-forum for camera questions, but any suggestions?

Pics not the best, but agree this looks suspicious.

It looks fake to me. The color is off--looks more like aluminum than silver.

To nss-52 , re:where did I obtain the coin."
Not sure, but I did a bit of buying about 9 years ago and it could have either been from ebay or one of a couple of individual sellers I met in the Seattle area where I lived at the time. I know I didn't pay much since I wasn't buying any premium items at the time, just circulated of various dates.
