I need to know if this token is made of gold & what AGW it is.

I do not want to remove it from the hermetically sealed enclosure. That would pretty much destroy the uniqueness of this piece.

I'd also like to get an idea of what this is worth:

I guess that if it were gold, it would have been stated on the packaging.

I'm with @sap on this one. See below link for a similarly designed token that is gold-plated copper.

Well, at least mine doesn't have Machine Doubling as bad as the one described in Spanish does.

I always try to find something positive in every negative situation no matter how bad it is.

So I'll probably throw it online starting at a buck and state, "you're on your own".

Because of the uniqueness of the packaging and lack of any comparative examples, I feel it has an excellent chance of being one of those diamonds in the rough that may fetch a surprising booty.

If you're going to be selling it, make sure the description is Correct in English. "Giovanni Paulo I" is not Pope Paul I, but Pope John Paul I, who reigned for just 33 days in September 1978. He was well-loved and sadly missed, and his successor took his name - Pope John Paul II. This medal seems to date from that brief month between his election and his death.

As a general rule, religious medalets don't tend to see much demand on the secondary market. But John Paul I is scheduled to be beatified later this year; this may be an opportune time to be selling a John Paul I souvenir.

@sap

Thanks for the update and heads up on the beatification process.

On another note, I've never seen a coin with this type of distinct swirling cartwheel. It's almost as if the obverse was caught in a photo while the liquid 'gold' was swirling in a blender: not a conventional minting process

How do you say it, "cartwheel to kill for"?
