$93. Purchased this because it is a mid-20s SF-mint buffalo which appears to have a full horn. Would you consider this a full horn? Thoughts? Thanks!

Photos on obverse side have minor blur to them
Net VF30. Rev. looks a bit stronger than obv. Pretty good strike.
Needs some love from Verdi-Care and patient conservation.
The area around the date looks a slight bit rough?

I don't grade enough Buffalos to feel super comfortable with them, so I may be out in left field here.

For me, I like to see separation even at the top of the horn before calling it a full horn. I'd don't see that on this coin in the pic provided.

I'm interested to see what others think so that my thinking is either gently corrected or validated. Thx for posting this @ns.

VF-35. Much better strike on the reverse. Obverse is terrible.

I'm at VF-25-30 ,I think it just barely makes full horn . $93 IMHO is too high .

This is a great example of the mismatched die pairings common in the branch mints. The obverse die is VLDS. The reverse is MDS. Because of a shortage of working dies until the 1930s (Philadelphia hogged them for themselves), the branch mints worked dies well past any useful life and frequently swapped one die at a time.

The obverse die shows clashing that doesn't match the reverse die. We can probably guess why the earlier reverse die was swapped out. Notice the evident but polished remnants of EPU below the Indian's chin and the still visible "U" from UNITED below the tip of the second feather.

Because of the obverse die state, this one needs to be graded exclusively from the reverse. The tail isn't separate from the rim, and the "F" of FIVE and "S" of CENTS are merging with the rim. The buffalo's head is distinct from the rim, barely. About half the fur is visible on the upper back, and about 1/3 on the buffalo's head. There's decent detail on the eye, beard, and foreleg. Overall, it makes mid-VF. I think it makes a technical VF-30, but I'd eye appeal it down a notch to VF-25.

It's worth it as an example of the mismatched dies that I've been babbling about for 50-ish years.* Interesting coin, and a good discussion starter.

Again, can't add much more than Fortcollins! The mismatched dies are interesting. Like FC, I'd be a buyer for that alone. Die pairings like this are one of the intriguing factors for me in this series. Putting together various dates in various die stages is something I enjoy. Gives me something to do when I'm striking out in my searching for my variety set!

A technical VF30 taking into account the obverse die state issues playing a roll in the lack of sharpness, VF30 reverse. I wouldn't argue a VF25, dinging the overall eye appeal.

i think it could go either way as I have the obv at VF25 and rev at VF30. I think the obv may hold it back to VF25
