i think your coin was cleaned. if the surfaces look this dull in hand then I have it at VF details (Cleaned). for a coin circulated to this level we should be seeing dirt or grime or something in the crevices of the devices and none is apparent. everything on both sides have the same flat look to it.

its probably still a $1000 coin but I'm not a gold expert

Agree, VF details (likey cleaned). Images are difficult to evaluate.

EF-40 and I think it will straight grade.

It looks like you've scanned the coin rather than taking photos. If so, try posting photos. Scans don't show what a coin really looks like.

Traces of luster are present near the rims so I think it should make XF-40. It does have a dull look that suggests some kind of cleaning.

The 1903-S is a common eagle and will be valued mostly for gold content in circulated grades. Would likely fetch $950 - $1000 at auction.
