Afternoon all, Hope you're enjoying this lovely weather we're all having. Getting to about 34 degrees this week apparently in Blighty... Anyway, as per a suggestion by Princetane, I've decided to post my copper and bronze coins in a separate thread so as to not hog the new acquisitions thread. I haven't been collecting long, and the intention was anything pre-decimal, but I've really got myself into the Georgian/Victorian era of pennies, halfpennies and farthings. Anyway, here it is. A lovely 1822 farthing. It's in fabulous condition and still has some lustre about it. It arrived today after I bought it as an unsold lot from last weekend's auction, despite the fact I had already bought a similar coin of the same date at the London Coin Fair itself. Never mind, having two is better than one I suppose...

Having two is rarely a problem, maybe even three. Nice example.

I do have a soft spot for Vic coppers. Nice acquisitions.

Fantastic! But you know - please HOG the acquisitions thread too, I mean that as in you get double duty and you can showcase your coins as part of that thread and by their own. Your stuff is so great, I just it thought also deserves the spotlight by itself as well. I felt real bad putting my shipwrecked shilling in amongst the copper bling parade. If helps, that coin was so corroded anyone would think its a much mankier version of any of your coins! Please by all means keep showing these coins in the acquisitions thread too! I would never suggest you not to. I mean I do, I am the king of bringing NZ and the Halfcrown to the world! (Time for a modesty self check). I really love the 1821 and 1822 KG4 stuff as these were the earliest machine made farthings with collars (The copper coins of the 1672 - 1776 period were all collarless and look almost like Roman coppers). It is so refreshing to see nice British copper in amongst all the gold and silver as well. Can't wait to see more!

For years I have been contemplating locking the new purchase topic. There are so many coins wasted there that deserve their own topics. Once a new page starts the older pages are rarely seen again. They belong in their own topic with their own specific title so they can be seen forever.

Quote: I felt real bad putting my shipwrecked shilling in amongst the copper bling parade Don't feel bad, Prince, I'm fascinated by shipwreck stuff. I love the idea of archaeology and all things treasure hunting, so much so I'm probably going to get myself a metal detector before long. I live in St Albans, famous for Boudicca and the Roman settlements here, so there may be some bits and bobs on the land of the farmers I know. Currently hunting down an 1823 farthing that's better than VF and on a par with the others. I recently managed to grab two 1823's with I instead of 1 in the date for peanuts, but neither were great quality really, but definitely worth more than I paid for them.

Quote: These are the halfpennies I currently have of the same era. Nice examples! Quote: I'm currently seeking out an 1825, which is proving to be harder than expected. But I'll get it Good luck!

I understand the frustration, with coins like yours, we are fishing from a limited pool. Those are all nice, especially the 1834 with the recessed lustre.
I just find the William IV stuff the hardest to get in high grade, I have some really nice George III, IV and Victoria early heads, but all my Billy's are "well used" sans one shilling and a groat which are near VF.

Once a new page starts the older pages are rarely seen again. They belong in their own topic with their own specific title so they can be seen forever. Please don't, I for one go back and revisit the old threads a lot. Plus many of the people who posted unforgettable coins there now have either left CCF or passed on. At least leave their submissions as a memory to them and most of us will love to look at nice coins. Plus very few people have opened up their own threads on the UK part of the site, its mostly newbies with one or two coins, who start a thread and fade off. If anything, perhaps get all these people to post in the single sticky, so that these threads by newbies don't flood out the forum pages and the new acquisitions and active collectors are always fresh. Besides if everyone does Kipster and I have done, that does not mean it will remain fresh. I mean my British coin thread had dropped halfway down page 2 until I revived it 2 days ago. It is up to me and Kipster to keep our threads relevant. I mean say if I die, get a major disease or NZ gets invaded my memory will eventually disappear unless someone keeps the thread relevant. Basically please don't shut it down!
