I would not submit, unfortunately it looks to have been cleaned.

I agree with it being a details coin. Best to remove coins from 2x2 holders before taking pics. Also make sure to flatten those staples. John1

Yes, appears to be cleaned. I don't think you were fleeced for $15. Now if it had been $75, that's another story.

Did everyone just miss it?
This is a counterfeit. Wrong date and design for this year.

Not my area so I would not know if real or fake. John1

All the wrong feels here. The date is way off (the "8" is really wrong for a large date). Didn't the large letter legend reverse start in 1843? The details on the portrait are really bad. It looks cast. EDIT: Looking back through the thread, I see @jacrispies beat me to it.

Looks like a bad copy of the original design. The date is ridiculously oversized. Not sure if it's counterfeit or just some souvenir piece that was sold. Either way not seeing any numismatic value here.

When I looked at the the coin, my first thought a cleaned porous fake. It is strange how often your first impression is correct on fakes without doing any diagnostics or knowing exactly why the coin is fake.

Slider, I agree, first you get a gut feel something isn't right, then you look for signs of confirmation.
