That is not an error.
The mm were hand punched into the working die and anywhere
in the triangle area below the date is acceptable.
If the mint used 50 different dies for a particular run, you
could potentionally have the mm in 50 different locations.
On your cent, if the run was 600,000, that's how many there
would be with the mm in that location.

Correct spelling
Darn spellcheck

I agree with JimmyD. I've come across several of these mint mark locations over many, many years of Wheat cent hunting--bulk cent bags, rolls, albums, boxes and boxes of 2x2s, etc. Unfortunately, not an error.

As mint mark locations go, this is certainly an outlier. Very nice!

Angled mintmarks are not a mint error. They are hand punched into the dies.

As long as it is south of the date and east of the design, it is normal. If there are two punching of the mintmark visble on a coin, then it is a coin Variety called a RPM. (Varieties and errors are not interchangeable) It is one or the other or a different term called a die event.

The internet even throws in damaged coins into this term errors, but they are not mint errors, they are coin damage. Know the differences, and then you will enter into the collecting world. Just like the 'Term Errors is used on the internet', The term Car, does fit all the difference vehicles on the road. Specifics are needed to know what each type is, rather than a generic term.

CoopHome: Why is the term "error" a vague usage on the internet?
