1983 Lincoln Cent- No Mint- Die Break

Camrdaddy19 Valued Member United States 109 Posts	Posted 06/22/2022 02:22 am So far this is the most exciting one for me.If it is a die break, it goes from the "T" in United and into the top-left corner of the Memorial building. There's a gap at the second column, then starts again at the 3rd and stretches just passed the bottom part of the 4th column. Some of the pictures are not the best but this was a tough one for me to get. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/22/2022 11:08 am Looks like the die clash cracked the reverse die. Thus the clash line is there and a die crack. Not a die break. A die break is a lot larger because the metal is falling away from the die. On a die crack, there is no metal from die die falling away yet. Note what a die crack looks like on a die: Note the left rear image. If show the crack going deep into the die. The crack on the die leaves a void. The metal from the planchet flows into the void and show a raised area on the coins struck with that die. The deeper the crack gets, the wider the crack will become. If other metal breaks off of the cracked area, then that is a die break. But so far on the die that struck this coin, just has a die crack.
