@jea, I'm seeing a die chip in the number 5 of the date. This was a result of the die having been damaged and likely indicates it was about time to swap out this one for a new die.

Yes with the observations above. Looks like there may be a die crack coming off the lower right wheat stalk, out to the rim--difficult to determine with the pics posted.

I have couple wheats like that on the dates. It's cause by chips in the die.

Seems there are more '50's with Die chip issues than without.
