Quote: "I had them checked, they are FAKE/COUNTERFIET, a well known Coin dealer verified weight, under 26 grams etc. I have sent them back, for credit." I hope he sent them back with delivery confirmation or another package will probably be "lost in the mail".

You know.......with all that we've talked about, I totally, totally forgot to let them know to do that. It's being done now; maybe I ca catch most of them before they're sent back!? Keep your fingers crossed.

You should also inform the secret service of this guy passing off counterfeits, with the dollar amount it should get them to go after him for wire fraud and passing counterfeits

Already have..... Their answer is that they have several thousand cases, & that we are doing the best by educating, buying authentically, returning the items, & to notify ebay of events that have warranted suspicion. All in all........... passing the buck for a small time operation. Eric

Now that ebay scrambles the buyers names, how do you contact them? I have wanted to do this when I see a scam but don't see how to get in touch with them.

I'm not going to speak against the process, because I agree in principle, but this action is a violation of ebay rules and can get your account banned by them.

Oh! Never mind. However I do think that as a service to people being scammed by disreputable sellers there ought to be a way to warn them. Why does ebay frown on this? Is it because of people contacting buyers to sell them stuff outside of ebay?

SuperDave...... I understand your point & your exactly right...... all in all......I don't really care anynmore about ebay's policy/procedure crap. If I wasn't as focused about coin parameters/specs, while buying & got burned, I'd wished that someone had come along & ripped into the seller for future buyers. Eric

Trying to cover past replies. First, Unfortunately Eric, he's back at it... doing quick "one day sales" in attempts to avoid being detected. Second, I have his email..it popped up in his reply to Paypal...don't feel it's right to post it here tho. Third, I'm almost at the point of giving up on ebay and Paypal. Only thing keeping me going, besides not wanting more unsuspecting buyers to be taken for a ride, is the efforts and assistance all of you have shown here. I know one thing for sure, if Paypal goes along with him and tells me I have to pay HIM for his so called "restocking fees", I may give up collecting altogether. Also, one other person helping me, who received fakes, has initiated fraud charges against this yo-yo, but as mentioned above, this takes awhile to investigate. Finally, if coffeegod wants more info, I'm at yahoo em....jnm_grp. Take care all.

Well folks...this will be my last message post. Paypal just took money out of my account to pay HIM and he already has the coin and my money!! I'm giving up on Paypal and ebay, who only seem concerned about listing fees and not their so called trust and safety issues regarding fraudulent sales. I hope now that federal charges against this seller will eventually be levied. I still offer many thanks to members here for their assistance and advise these past two months, but I'm fed up with this issue. Take care all.

Quote:I'd suggest just avoiding ebay, not the hobby. I don't intend to diminish the seriousness of selling fake coins...because it is indeed very serious. But what are we talking about here, a $5-$10 restocking fee (just a guess, the auction closed at $55)? I certainly wouldn't be quitting the hobby over that. I wouldn't even quit buying on ebay over it. Toolhaus.org is a great tool, and put to good use would have prevented the purchase from being made. By the way, I have noticed ebay pulling the plugs on some sellers that are selling "replicas"...even those that are openly calling them so. Just trying to provide some perspective.

Might as well keep you informed on where I stand with this particular issue. Here was my original purchase.>>> # 120358200043I suspected it fake and returned it for a refund, unfortunately without tracking. The seller said I never sent it and Paypal refused my refund because of that. Two nights ago, about 2 in the morning, I spotted THIS post >>> 120395266976Same coin, same holder, same price and sold. The coin seller stated he never received from me! Now he's sold it TWICE and another Ebayer got bilked. I've told both ebay and Paypal about it and am waiting to see if I'll get my refund THIS time.

I do quite a bit of buying and selling and I am finding this an interesting topic. I was looking at this sellers posts. And noticed the pictures weren't very clear. What was it that gave away the Morgan was fake? Weight or appearance? I have examined a few fakes at a coin show and noticed they were lighter and the numbers on the date looked funky. One thing that can be done is to look at his auctions. If the coin appears fake by the photograph, There is a link on the bottom to report that auction while it is in progress and it will get pulled, enough complaints and he will lose selling privileges. So as a group effort this guy can pulled off of E-bay. I think I am going to ask this guy some questions like asking for clearer pictures while I am at it.

I hope you get your refund jnm444. It's clearly the same coin but since it's raw, there's a chance they won't refund your money.
This clown has a CC Morgan for sale with one blurry obverse photo only! It's amazing people will bid on coins with so little to go on. Per rays89 question: How did you detect it being a counterfeit?
Good Luck!
