Came across this 1960D and originally thought it was a Cud. After looking a little closer and thinking about it, the more logical answer is that the inside of the 9 broke off of the die. Has anyone seen this before? Any opinions?

Just a die chip, not uncommon. Not a Cud - a Cud is a rim issue.

Thanks guys, I wasn't well read on the specifics of Cuds, die breaks, and die chips. I guess this is considered an interior die break. Cuds are obviously only die breaks that encompass a portion of the rim. I've seen some "filled" dates but nothing quite like this one. I don't know why I thought it was any different. Thanks again.

Yep! the center of the 9 broke off. Some would say that the post broke off, but on an open 9 there is no post - so a very nice chip and great conclusion to your coin. Well done Ozzy

Yes, yes. Die chip. I've seen several hundred of these--if not a thousand or two--over many years, mostly (but not limited to) cents form the 1950s.
