Hello everyone I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I had collected as a young man then got out for many years and have recently renewed my interest in collecting coins and tokens. I am in Ontario, Canada I have noticed in the Charlton catalogues that they reference this coin but state that none have been found to date. Does anybody know for sure if that this strike currently exists in any strike for the 1977 Canadian nickel dollar ( to the best of the forums knowledge)?

Welcome to the CCF
I have only heard of 3 varieties for the 1977 Dollar Attached Jewel SWL Detached Jewel SWL Detached Jewel FWL
If there is a fourth variety, I have never seen one. Perhaps SPP-Ottawa our Nickel dollar expert can shed more light on this.

Does not exist, despite the odd auction of one and sometimes even a PL strike certified by ICCS. What folks have to remember is, that both jewels must be firmly attached.
Ultimately, the detached jewels and short waterlines are a working die polishing variant for both sides of the coin. The master matrix and master die did not have these phenomena. For some reason, combination of fresh obverse dies (with attached jewels) and fresh reverse dies (with full waterlines) were never used.

I don't see where Charlton references the variety you speak of. Except that it states on page 220 that the AJ/FWL has not been found.

Thanks for the input but I feel that my front jewel is attached on both points. The second jewel is as pictured in the Charlton and I have full waterlines. It has been graded by ICCS as an SP-67 : attached jewel: WL
I would love for someone else to evaluate my coin to confirm or dispute its existence.

Just post a clear photo of both sides and we can settle the dispute. Without pictures there is no way to help, we have to see what you have.

Sorry to revive a dead-thread. I saw this exact coin in person recently. Owner mentioned that he posted about it online and I dug this up. Far from an expert, but I am convinced it is real. Definitely an attached Jewel. Everything else checks out coin-in-hand and consistent with ICCS. It's either real, or a missattribution by ICCS. Not sure I'll be able to convince the owner to share photos but I thought I'd share my Two Cents on it's authenticity.

This seems so counterintuitive. They minted almost 1.4 million of these and never paired two fresh dies that weren't over polished?

There are 3 in NGC holders posted on ebay right now. Search for "1977 ATTACHED JEWEL FWL CANADA DOLLAR". Note that NGC did not identify the variety. So, it is only the seller's opinion. The photos are not good. It is hard to say whether it is FWL or SWL, and, imo, those are"detached".
