I'm not sure what I am looking at. The 8 in the date has the appearance of doubling. This might be Machine Doubling but it looks different from other examples I have seen. Sorry for the multiple angles but I wanted to be sure you could see what I was seeing. Lighting can be an issue at times. What do you think ?

Looks to be the start of split plating. p.s.- upside down images don't help us.

I'm thinking Die Deterioration doubling--nice example. There's also a hint of a Ridge Ring on the obverse--more evidence of Die Deterioration.

I understand but, In order to make sure shadows are not playing a part in what I see, I rotate the image to see if that changes what I see. Just trying to give you as much information as possible to make a conclusion. Thanks.

Looks like DDD to me- notice how the 'doubling leads towards the rim. this is caused by the die stretching a little possibly due to metal fatigue and pressure from the press.
