Found this 69 DD Lincoln Penny in my late husband's coin collection. Is it a double die penny and would it be advisable to have it graded. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Your 69 CENT is not a Doubled Die and certainly not worth getting graded. For your own education, where do you think there is Doubling?

It appears doubled on the date and also on the lettering on reverse

@cur, I can't see it well in your current pics, but I note that cents of the late 1960s often times have spectacular Machine Doubling. The date is a common location for this to be seen. Perhaps you can add an in-focus close up of just the date to the thread? Thx.

Ok thx for the closeup. I'm not quite seeing it still. Here is a link to another thread which shows what I'm talking about: http://goccf.com/t/278398

I believe I'm seeing a hint of Machine Doubling on the date--not a DDO by definition. Full, large and sharp photos (not enlargements of less-than-sharp pics) would help with the assessment. Thanks.

@Curious One, This it is not an DD. What you see is a very clear Machine Doubling. It is confusing the both. sorry. second: In my opinion it is no worth to send to grad. In general if a coin it is not 200$ or more, grading is loose money. You decide. Third: About to grad this coin, even is look very nice and clean, has marks which will push down. I think in the best you will have an 64 with a price under 1 Dollard. Hope I help a little bit to understand how it is work.

On the 1968-1972 cents there are many examples. Even most of the 1969-S DDO's have Machine Doubling on them: Note the hub doubling on the date and the same direction of Machine Doubling on date and mintmark. All caused by the machine on the Machine Doubling. These are doubled dies with Machine Doubling. This can happen. But Machine Doubling never creates a doubled die. Why? A doubled die comes from a die with doubled hub doubling. Machine Doubling just alters the current strike on the coin that was just struck.

No DD. The famous one is the 1969 S.
