hi guys ,
Below are some photos of a weird coin I found it's a 1999 AU
2 dollar coin .

I've got it next to a standard 2 dollar coin .

If anyone has any ideas on or seen a coin like this before love to hear about it .

Jim

These are made of Copper/Aluminum/Nickel.
Your example is a "road kill" (damaged) 1995.

What makes you think it is made of gold?
You can't go by colour alone, it just looks like a badly damaged coin.

Aluminium-bronze can turn all kinds of colours, between gold and grey. This coin appears to be heavily polished - perhaps besides the roadkill damage, it was corroded, and someone has polished it clean.

They did not make any gold versions of the $2 coin in 1995 (edit: or 1999 either). And there is absolutely zero chance that a two-dollar-sized gold blank was made, and then "accidentally" inserted into the coin press and released into circulation.

There is one final option: that it's a counterfeit $2 coin.

It weights 6.4 grams and I mistyped it's 1999.
I have just never seen on that stood out so much . Thanks for the advice .

The correct weight is 6.6g so yours is well within spec for an aluminum bronze coin.
Gold would be much heavier.

Gold's density is 19.3 g/cm3. Aluminium-bronze's density is 7.6 g/cm3. That means if you take a piece of solid gold that's exactly the same size and thickness as a $2 coin, it will weigh over twice as much - 16.2 grams, or thereabouts.

Gold is really, really heavy.
