Hey Everyone!
I found this nickel and the mint mark looks pretty interesting. I didn't see a matching listing in varietyvista http://www.varietyvista.com/05%20JN...201964D.htm) so I initially wrote it off as MD or DDD. Then I came back to it down the road and on closer inspection I noticed a notch coming out of the top right portion of the D that I wouldn't expect to see from MD or DDD.

Is this a new RPM variety or am I seeing things?

Thanks!

DDD is on the single squeezed dies. This is one of the multi hub dies. On the mintmark the area next to the upright is die wear moving in the direction of the rim. Same on the right side of the devices and building. The center of the mintmark is probably MD. Why do I think that? Because of how the right side of the inner part of the mintmark looks pushed upwards on that area. When you look at the RPM's you can see the double punching of the mintmark punch. This one is not enlarged or showing a sign of a double punch event. Note on the listed ones below.

?

DDD is Die Deterioration Doubling. You're saying dies just didn't deteriorate before 1996/7?

Back to OP's coin. I think it could be a RPM, Wexler lists one very similar in appearance to this. (Namely WRPM-005: http://www.doubleddie.com/1469129.html ) The photo on there is not great, so it's hard to make a for-certain match with it but it does look extremely close. I also do not see the die scratch below the mintmark that is mentioned there, but it being a different die state is always a possibility. Can you get a picture of the M in UNUM and the L's in MONTICELLO?
