Hit up the show in Cincinnati yesterday and grabbed this one. I have a nice one but for 180 bucks I couldn't pass it up. One of the more underrated dates in my opinion, reminds me of the one I have in 65+rb, but more brown, and less hits. Has a mid level luster, not a blazer, but few enough hits and enough luster and consistent color that It should make 65bn at least. What you guys think?   Edited by KYCopperCoins

Guessing it's not as red as it appears, so I'll say MS-65BN. Super nice.

It is bordering rb I'd sat, but I think it leans more bn, the color is pretty accurate, overhead looks more brown, with a nice rb luster poking through.

It's nice but seem to have enough red to make RB. MS-65BN.

I just love the high relief on the early Lincolns and details on them... this one has semi pebbled fields not unlike a matte proof similar to many of the 1915 and 16's I've seen. Did I mention how much I love the relief on the early Lincoln Cents?   |

Yes, the field texture on these early Lincolns is wonderful, and they were just everyday circulation strikes! Compare with today's garbage Zincolns from the US Mint. Just hateful.

Excellent example. I'll go with MS64--looks like a 'flattening' hit on the upper right wheat stalk, along with the gouge under UM.

i agree this date is underrated. I think the lighting/glare is giving more of a red look than is there. I just love the string obv detail of these in MS. the hair and beard detail is just sick.
without less glare I think it comes in as MS64BN. in your blowup the field color is just a beautiful rainbow

Ok, so they called this one cleaned...I don't see anything that would warrant a cleaned grade...but then again this entire sub could pretty much get a crack out and resub...I feel pretty hosed on this sub. No notable hairlines, other than 1 singular small one behind the head that is nearly invisible unless under high magnification if I remember right. If it was dipped it was long ago, and the color seems too consistent for that even. Opinions?   |

MAN! I missed that show!  Was that at Sharonville? When I see a show dealer with a coin like this, I always wonder. Especially if they are also selling a lot of slabbed coins. They most certainly would have submitted it themselves....and probably did. PCGS Guess: They didn't like the color and luster didn't match the details of grade. I would expect a coin like this to have full cartwheel luster with tight spokes. I've been TPG denied with coins like this too. Ones where the spokes were kind of wide, interrupted and diffused. It taught me to really focus on the luster - that's what the graders notice first and it grabs their attention. IMO this is a brown coin, it just needs to brown up some more. I would rinse it through the polarity ladder and leave sitting naked on a piece of cardboard in a window sill. Hopefully is starts toning quickly but it could also take years. Yessir, I try to hit up Sharonville every year, reasonably close for me. Yeah, already planned on adding it to my window sill collection lol.
