Hi all. I have always loved Morgans. The size, the feel, the heft, the silver, the frostiness of an MS-63 raw coin... sigh. To that end, I focused quite a bit of my buying early on at one point on Morgans, Morgans and more Morgans--usually high grade coins and rolls because I learned somewhere that a higher grade coin would be worth more down the road, even if I was not planning on selling for a long time; it was simply a better coin I felt. (Though, believe me, I have plenty of Morgans with "character" that are less than high grade.) So, for those of you who are Morgan lovers as well, how many do you have? I know this is a subjective question, but for the average coin collector on here who may have built up a nice collection they enjoy to look at from time to time... do you have 25? 100? 500? 1,000? Personally, I have approx 400 Morgans in total in my personal collection.
- About 40 are 1921 (I shied away from too many 1921s right from the start)
- Half of my Morgans are conservatively MS-60
- About 100 are MS-63 based on a conservative PCGS definition ("Moderate number/size marks/hairlines, strike may not be full")
- 20 are slabbed; half from PCGS, half from NGC (also used for comparison grading)
- 18 are CCs
- Key and semi-key dates I own are on average in EF-40 condition and include an 1895-S
Even with 400 Morgans, whenever I see another one for sale, I always stop to look. Irresistible charmer... Edited by phdezra 02/12/2009 10:11 pm

I have 4 rolls - 80 Morgan's total. I bought them mainly as "numismatic bullion". That may sound like an oxymoron but to me it doubles my pleasure. I get beautiful Morgan dollars with over 3/4 ounce of silver in each one. Most of mine are 1921's in AU condition. I've got one roll of 19th century Morgans in VF/XF.

I inherited all my Morgans. 81 through 85 Carson City GSAs, plus five raw, four BU and one XF. A total of ten. I think they are beautiful coins, but most dates are very common in uncirculated grades, but pricey because of their popularity.

Wow, I thought I was doing alright and I only have six morgans. I have a 1921-D which is UNC. but probably an MS-60 shape. Then a 1883-O and a 1882-CC both in 63-64 shape. Then a philly coin, san-franscisco coin, and another O mint, all circulated condition. I also have just two Peace dollars even though I like these better than the morgans. And presently I have five silver IKE's. 3 proof, 2 Unc.

I have 'a few'... Only one 1921, a "D" of course. I live in Denver and visit the Mint, so I have to have at least one 1921-D...

Morgans do seem to be attractive to hoarders...or perhaps they hoard themselves, somehow. I can only recall buying two Morgan dollars, but a quick look at my database shows that I have sixteen. How does that happen? Do I buy them in my sleep?

I need your address, codes to any security devices you may have, dates and times you will be away from home please. Just kidding. Morgans are my favorite coin. I only have 14 at the moment. They are very hard to find here at a reasonable price. 99% of all Morgans that I have seen around here are priced around 50-60% ABOVE Red Book. All the ones I have were acquired when I was stationed in Maryland.

I have around 200 and since I'm a variety collector, most are 1878, 1880, 1888, 1891, 1900 and 1921-D. I would guess around 60% are BU with a few in PCGS slabs 65 and 66. I really have no interest in the keys of the series or CC's so that makes me a Morgan Oddball. My passion is finding a variety with less than 10 known specimens and paying just a bit over melt.

I share your affinity for Morgan's...back in the 60's I had about 30-40 unc raw coins, sold them during some hard times, started back about a two years ago and have about a dozen all BU raw coins that have full feathers and hair with minimum (almost no) bag marks. No graded coins. I love all large silver coins about the size of the Morgan.
Have a complete set (one) of the M. Theresa Thalers!
One large silver coin from china, a few from other countries.
Would love to be able to put together a complete set of Morgan's in the highest grade I could afford..there are a few I definitely would only be able to dream about.
had a GSA CC stolen from me, discovered about two years ago when I went back to collecting, went to look at it and it was gone from the box I had it in...could have happened sometime in the previous 10 years because I hadn't looked at it since then. (sad face)

I have 128. 48 are 21. I got all mine a few years back when a friend needed money. Bought all of them at $5.00 each. Also about 50 Peace. No picking, just had to buy all or nothing.

Make that eleven, not ten. I forgot the MS-65 1881-S in my 7070 album.
