For the last 2 years, I have been reading posts about how people have found Mercury dimes in circulation. Unfortunately, I was never able to post any finds until today.

This afternoon, I finally found a Mercury dime.

Around 1pm, I was leaving my Psychology class at college. When I came out of the building I realized that I just missed the shuttle. So I thought I would just walk to my car which is about 15 minutes away. About 7 minutes into my walk I saw a dirty dime on the sidewalk, so I picked it up. I brushed off some dirt and discovered it was a 1941 Mercury dime. I was pleasantly surprised.

I know it isn't worth much, but I can finally say I found a Mercury dime.

Although, It makes me wonder what it was doing, lying in the middle of the sidewalk.

It makes me wonder exactly how long that dime has been sitting there. Perhaps someone dropped one when they were celebrating the end of the war in Europe. (Hey, It's possible. )

Good fortune has run my way recently. The grocery store I go to has a coin star, I sort thru coins take them to the coin star and trade the receipt for more coins. They think it rather funny that I bring coins in and get coins, but hey -it works for me. Got 6 rolls of dimes about three weeks ago and came up with a 1937 Mercury and a 1953 Rosevelt. Then last week I bought bulk 10 lbs of world coins. Got a 1893 Indian head and a 1943 steel cents. I've this Coin Star theory. Times are getting bad and people are dumping jars/cans of coins into Coin Star that have been sitting around for years and roll searchers are getting lucky.
