Does anyone carry a Morgan in their pocket. I have started carrying a 1921 that I bought at a pawn shop, I like the feel of it plus it is an interesting conversation piece. Or is this a bad idea?

Plenty of people carry Morgans as pocket pieces - they're plentiful enough that one can do so without feeling as if you're destroying history. Me, I carry a $1 token from Binion's Casino.

Put it in a plastic flip. I carry my 'lucky' 1989 A.S.E. in my pocket in a flip. It's 'lucky' because I bought it from a 7-11 drawer in 1993 for $1! The flip preserves it in its scratched, rim-dinged 'as-found' condition... I have an 1881-P Morgan in a bolo tie, and a 'silver dollar' belt buckle that currently holds a 1971-S Ike Update: 1921-P Morgan... (PS: If you've ever been in Denver, MtnCoinMan, it was the 7-11 at the s/w corner of South Broadway and Yale St. which closed down a few years ago)

WOW DNA, I would feel bad about grabbing that as it was probably stolen at some point. :P

Quote: breakintheweb: "I would feel bad about grabbing that as it was probably stolen at some point." The same could be said about a lot of people's circulation finds. There are some cases of where broke people do willingly spend old coins/notes at face value, though. In economic times like this, there will be more cases of that going on. Also, coin jars being dumped into coin counting machines without checking the contents beforehand. (More of that is going on these days, as well) And there's even occasional intentional spending of 'collector' coins... At the time I got that ASE, silver was around $4/$5 an ounce, so a 'broke spender' would have been just a bit more possible.... The cashier was happy to get rid of it, and he thanked me for buying it out of the drawer and giving him a $1 note...

I do, and when I get bored, I flip it like a poker chip across my fingers.
yup... makes a great conversation piece, especially when they see it's a dollar and not a half and it's from 1921

Love the Morgans.... I tend to catch myself carrying one from time to time. I keep a little silver around thats well circulated just for the purpose of carrying it. Also sometimes carry a 4oz bar I made myself with my company logo in it, but that tends to get a little heavy. :D But yes either way great converstaion piece and absolutly nothing wrong about it.

Dont feel bad about buying coins from drawers are differnt business's No way to tell if they are stolen or if someone was just didnt know what it was worth. I myself bought an ASE (American Silver Eagle) for $1 at a local bank! They just threw it in with the Ike dollars

I carry a 1879 morgan VF-AU in my change pocket away fron any other metal or coins. I like the idea of haveing a 130 yr. old coin with I don't know why I guess it gives me a warm feeling. The added bonus is when others see it.
