Spot. Contamination either to planchet or poor handling/packaging.

Quote: "Why does my quarter in this set look like it has an "S" like blemish in the exact space that a mint mark would have gone but didn't? Good pics. Bud Dry [beer] had a commercial out several years ago where they famously asked, "Why ask why?" It is a coincidence, looks to be a surface stain. Not sure what you mean by "famous for no mint mark" because that is the way all the proof coins were up until that time also (and all Philadelphia coins).

@ raingoddessyume. What I see I can not confirm is SMS or not. Photos in plastic is very hard to take and confuse also. You can open very easy the holder and take photos. This it is one thing.
About your coin. It is Type C, RDV-003, hicks IIIo. If it is Bs (business strike) 1967 it is rare if it is SMS was unconfirmed till now to exist (is believe to be) but must be in some hoard accumulations. Hope you has at a good price.
I want to see also the Observe please.

DO NOT TOUCH HE COIN WITH UNPROTECTED FINGERS.
Yes it is an SMS. Send to ANACS and ask for RDV-003 SMS.

I have watched the YouTube videos of the 3 backs of quarters to look for in that transition time but I thought mine reverse looked closer to a Type A because the ES in states are smooshed closer together than the other two types?

Does PCGS differentiate between the different reverse types?

The reverse photos of this quarter is just the quarter. I removed the lid of the case it was resting in but left the quarter resting inside the case as I took the photos.

that mark on the reverse looks like a 'milk stain' to me. combine that with Pareidolia you get the shape of an 's'

Does the milk stain make the coin not worth the expense of grading it then? If I could sell the coin for a good deal of money, I absolutely would in a heartbeat, but I am hesitant to spend 300-500 dollars purchasing a membership to PCGS or ANACS and paying to ship the coin to not see a return on it or at best to break even.

None of the US coins had mintmarks on the 1965-1967 coins. But all is not lost. When you look at your images, they are improving. I like the third image the best. (not as much light and it allows the coin to look the best.) Like a Glammer Shot.
