on my 2004 lewis and clark nickel is that a die crack on the cheek and is the nose supposed to look the way it does

I am thinking more in terms of a planchet lamination.

Could be a small lam or else just damage on the cheek whereas the nose looks like it has taken a couple hits in circulation.

as for what Tom puts up his nose, you'd have to ask him, but perhaps you were making a pun about the crack, which to me looks like a small lamination

well you almost posted up a close-up of the nose, but not quite. from the far away image, it looks almost normal.
