Can you show a clear shot of the rim where this happened? If definitely looks struck through, I would guess whatever it was struck through fell of and took the clad layer with it(haven't seen this before) I'd be interested to see what the pros say.

actually wondering if this was a planchet error over a striking error.

If the reeds are undisturbed, then it is a struck through error. But if the metal pushes outside of the rim edge, then it could be damage. (But I feel this is a partial missing clad and a struck through a possible rim bur. But it seems both are in the same location?)

Very nice! That is definitely a mint error and not damage. It resembles a strike through but IMO, not a rim burr. Possibly a fissure of some kind?

I don't think this is struck through a rim burr, I'm still not convinced it is a struck through error at all. Note there are two parts of the rim that seem to be effected by the even and incuse, a single rim burr could not do that imo, I'm still questioning weather or not it's a planchet error or a struck through but after seeing the rim shots it's 100% a mint error. I have much less experience looking at planchet defect errors then I do with struck through errors so I'm kind of on the fence due to the missing clad. The details are still perfectly clear on the effected area and the area with the missing clad doesn't show any signs of peeling off.
I'm gonna stick with the struck through crowd but I'm skeptical.

Thanks to all who made comments, I truly appreciate the feedback. Always learning. Should have read more when I was much younger.

I vote genuine missing clad and strike through.
Maybe struck through George Washington's eyelash?

I agree. The missing cladding looks like it was not peeled off on that area. Probably the cladding was damaged before the strike.
