I picked this up last year for about 1200, maybe a tad over 1200. I always wanted a chopmarked one, and this one seemed beautiful. I didn't realize how much the chopmarks on one side impact and move metal on the other side!

What do you think of this one? What do you think PCGS called it?

I'm thinking 62 though I can see 58. I like chop marks though I do not like that Anacs and Ngc detail them no matter what and PCGS will straight grade them if they are otherwise straight grade worthy.

Chopmark does not mean details at PCGS.

I like the chop marks on most of the Trade dollars. They add a bit of character to them. Sometimes one is struck in an unfortunate place taking away from the coin's eye appeal though.

MS-63 straight grade. In the old days a chopped marked coin meant it was no longer Unc.

This one is strange--maybe a softer strike causes so many to see this as AU instead of MS. It can be really hard to tell, I guess.

I chose this one because I liked the luster, the fact that this coin did it's job in Asia, the fact that one of the chopmarks is a Chinese surname I can read (Wang), and still remains uncirculated. I also liked the 1030 (sorry, I mispoke when I said I paid 1200, it was 1030 when I check my records) dollar price, even if it was a bit strong one year ago. As an avid traveler myself, I am pleased that my type coin for this series is one that physically made its journey!
