I average about 25 dollars a week, but I know I am probably at the lower end of spending, just spend my allowance I give my wife and me for are hobbies. so I don't spend out of my budget. you might not get alot of reply do to the fact that alot of people don't like to have others knowing how much they spend

I don't set a budget, I just look at different coins I like and eventually decide if I want to spend XXX on it. Sometimes I pick up different coin magazines and am happy to just look at the pictures. (Coin porn?) [:0] I do look through all my change too. That can be a good way to spend a saturday morning!

Great topic!

I am an impulse buyer.

However, living on pretty much a fixed income now, I would guess, at the most, I spend $500 a year.

I buy a proof set and proof ASE from the mint, impulse buy when I'm at my coin store, and buy through the mail in order to keep my new darkside habit going.

I don't need to budget. My coin spending is under control. I can stop anytime I want to...

I just checked my budget database for last year's grand total on coin purchases and...

[:0]

Maybe I should seriously consider this "budgeting" thing after all...

I am one of those who unashamedly buy on impulse!!

I see something neat, I try to get it. Don't think it could be any fun if it is 100% planned and organised.
I need to see an oppurtunity and either get happy to use it or regret that I couldn't and start "hunting" for it.
That's why I don't have a predetermined budget, think it puts a limit that I can never stay within anyway :LOL

I keep telling myself I am not a Collector but an Investor

That may be largely true

Rest in Peace

I don't "budget" per se for coins. If I happen to have a few cents left over from paying my bills, I cruise ebay (and Heritage and B&M if I get their auction catalogs on time) for coins I want (or "need" although this implies some biological imperative; I have absolute complete control over myself, coin-buying-wise. I also sell bridges to those with similar self-discipline. ). As a result of this carefully planned strategy, I end up binge-buying to the tune of well over a thou per year, often very well over, slopping over into the two thou plus category in some years. If I had a wife any longer and did this, I wouldn't have a wife any longer. [:0]

Ageka, I also keep telling myself I'm an investor, but there are certain coins I absolutely had to have and paid so much more over market value that I will never recover my costs in my lifetime. This is a very good investment strategy for my nephew and niece who will someday inherit my coins.

Fred

With me the problem is that I see rare coins go by for 5% over their metal value and I go crazy not bidding on them
Problem is it hurts to sell coins

I have been in coins for just a few months and have spent quite a bit over the "....(Coin Sickness).........HELP I AM ADDICTED!!!!!!!" mark
If I see something that I can make money on right away, I buy it (which happens weekly).
That way once I realize I have too much in coins a couple weeks later, I have no problem selling off the stuff I do not have a big desire for and pocket a few extra bucks.

$100-250.

My vote is based on what I am allowed to spend for my collection, not for resale. Since BHD's and hammered coinage are not the cheapest coins to be had, I don't get to add a lot to my collection each year, but it's fun!

Try not to exceed an average of $50 month. Spend $150 this month and do without the next two months. Rick
