The last circulating commemorative 20 cent was the 2013 Canberra coin.

2013 just happens to be the year the RAM started issuing coloured circulation two dollar coins. The popularity of those seems to have put plans for any commemorative 20 cent coins back on the shelf.

I think the last commemorative 20 cent coin was the 2016 changeover coin?
Still been a long time since we have had a 20 cent commemorative coin in circulation.
There has been plenty of NCLT 20 cent like AC/DC coins

That was a series involving every denomination. I'm talking about normal stand-alone 20 cent coins without platypus reverse.

I hadn't noticed but yeah looks like it - maybe the ANZAC 20c pieces in the newspaper giveaways were meant to fill that gap for a few years too?

I would say so, there were a lot of them in that 1995 - 2008 period and then it got spasmodic.

Main reason - $2 coins are more lucrative and memorable now, most people can't do much with 20 cents as it can't buy more than a couple of sweets. A $2 coin also has a golden colour and they can make multicoloured ring designs, whereas the 20 cents had limited colourability.

Plus they did keep on the 50 cent as a running commemorative (It's the real star with commem 50s going back to 1970 and regular ones since 1988 and that is before we get to all the NCLT ones).

The $1 I feel has been stepped up too as a commem. Its always been one, but with the Alphabet series, donation coins, regular commems and the usual additional NCLT ones in the $2 sets like Wiggles, Commonwealth games etc - its also being heavily rotated.

The 50c and $1 are obviously the common and easily to get commems - but they are trying to make the coloured $2 the prestige collectibles, despite the overkill with them at the moment.

The 20c however has sleeked back to being just a change coin.

Two dollar colored coins cost very little more than a 20 Cent coin to produce, but there is very nearly $1.80 extra profit per coin.
