Toccs New Member United Kingdom 4 Posts	Posted 08/03/2022 09:32 am Hey again, Our recent discovery of a roman coin also posted on this forum for identification sparked this new adventure for us. My wife's Granddad unfortunately passed away last year, he fought in WW2 in the Royal Artillery. He left her a box of coins that we are only now going through, I am currently sorting out a few and thought I would share. Here are about 20% of the total amount. They won't be worth a huge amount, since I think everyone's granddad had a similar collection (and died a lot longer ago), but still interesting, especially the overseas coins they must have picked up during the war. Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 08/07/2022 06:47 am Those are some pretty old pennies. Have you gone through them for certain dates like 1868, 1869 and 1894 bun penny. There are also some varieties. Otherwise more sentimental rather than material value. Still a bun head penny with a sharp date and decent detail on Britannia from before 1887 is a £1 or more coin. Obviously your relative was collecting them from change and interested in saving the really old ones. I worked that out if they are 98, that means they would have been born in 1923 or 1924 and thus likely at least 8 by the time they were searching their pennies for old ones. I can't see any after 1900, so by the 1930s they would be 30+ years old. It is very interesting to see them. I always find old bun head pennies interesting and a lot of fun. Some one gave me a handful of 1800s ones and I was happy to get a decent 1862, 1879 and 1890 out of them! Report this Post to the Staff
