I managed to photo some 1971 coins just in time. Some images show both sides of a coin with 2 of that coin type, and some of the display only side may not be the same year as the dated coin, but they are the same type. This saves time with my photography and processing times. France 5 Francs - Base metal Danish 1 Krone - Frederick IX, pre Margarethe now. West Germany 2 Marks - Konrad Adenauer Greece 20 and 10 Lepta, aluminium And 1 Drachm, Greek coins continued to show the King long after he was deposed. This one has the revolutionary mottos we saw in 1973, but also says on the back, Constantine II King of the Hellenes. The Aluminium ones say "Kingdom of the Greeks" Turkey 50 Kurus - one of the few coins not to show Ataturk! The Anatolian maid is shown. Before crazy inflation, Turkey had stainless steel coins from 25 Kurus to 5 Lira. That is my 1971

First time participating in one of these threads, hopefully I can remember to post some more of my coins. Here is my set from Portuguese Timor, 1970, missing the 50 centavos. 20 Centavos 1 Escudo 2.5 Escudos 5 Escudos 10 Escudos Although the Portuguese Escudo was used until 1976, they were only minted in 1958 and 1970- with the 10 escudos minted in 1964 as well. The 1958 and '64 issues had the 3, 6, and 10 escudo coins (the 3 and 6 escudos were replaced by the 2.5 and 5) made of silver, while the 1970 set is comprised of cupronickel and bronze pieces for the lesser denominations. Question for the folks who post regularly in these threads- do you have full 'coin for every year' collections? That is perhaps an 'end goal' of mine. Edit: sheesh, sorry about the size of the images! I'll reduce them for next time!

You bet me to it! Some close ups of single coins. Halfcrown - Expect to see a LOT more of these from now on Shilling, Scottish version - Someone smashed up some proof sets to get these, it was NOT me! As NRob said, these coins were souvenirs only and never circulated. My usual NZ/Aus update coming, in the mean time have a Samoan Tala showing James Cook to whet your appetites. Samoa - 1 Tala (Commem) for James Cook Bicentenary - rather un necessary as it was Jacob van Roogeveen as the first European explorer to sight Samoa in 1722 (Samoa put out another coin to celebrate 250 years since that in 1972).

1970 in New Zealand, saw only the 1c, 5c and 10c issued for circulation in low numbers. We were still coming off the big initial 1967 issue of nearly 250 million coins. Here are the 5c and 10c of that year. The 10c is the first issue without the words "One Shilling" as it was expected by now everyone had embraced the decimal system. Two large dollars were issued in 1970. The more common one celebrated Mt. Cook, as Captain Cook was on the 1969 coin. As you can see, there was a Royal Tour in 1970 as well, stamps but not coins were issued, just mentioned. This dollar had 300k minted (15k in sets). The second dollar was the "Cook Islands" dollar which was actually 2 years before Cook Islands got their own coin designs (Still using the NZ Dollar). Only 25,000 standard and 5,030 polished examples were minted of this coin and these are much more scarce than the Mt. Cook coin. To add to the Cook Craziness was Australia's 50 cent piece. This is a beautiful design and was their first commem of the decimal era, the last had been the 1954 Royal Visit Florin. The next was the 1977 Silver Jubilee coin. Seems a far cry from the amount of Bubblegum $2 coins flooding out at the moment. Next we leave the Cook mania and move to my world coins of 1970.
