1968 was a year of change, most countries in Europe and Canada finally abandoned base or high level silver content and switched back to nickel for their higher denomination coins. Canada issued 50% silver quarters and dimes in 1968, but apart from the 40% halves, the rest had gone to nickel or copper nickel. Switzerland abandoned silver completely except for NCLT.
You will find in 1967, many of these countries were issuing silver and I have a few of these coins. On the streets it meant little to people as the coin had the same face value regardless of the metal and these muck metal versions were the same size and weight as the older precious metal pieces.

Netherlands 1 Guilder - Nickel

Irish 6 pence (Unlike the UK, Ireland issued Predecimal coins in 1968 and even 1969)

Switzerland 1 Franc - Nickel

Turkiye 5 Kurus (Photo came out better than the 1 Kuru!)

Greece 10 Drachma - after the King had been deposed and fled in exile!

Denmark 25 Ore (Holed coin)
