Could somebody please shed some light on what is happening to Abe Lincoln's beard and the 5 in1958 on this 1958 D Lincoln Wheat penny? I am not sure if these are related, separate, either as a mint error or " PMD".

Could be a piece of tape. Or it could be a lamination/struck through debris. But looks to me more line a lamination area that hasn't peeled yet. (note the date is also showing some lamination residue on it as well.

...It appears the metal is above the field just below the chin...Based on the photo I would call it a de-lamination.
