Looks like a struck thru metal error and has a weak strike noting Jefferson's temple.

Interesting!
Another coin where I question why it wasn't pulled from circulation long before it reached this level of wear.

Yokozuna- I thought the same thing, also the fact that the area where the struck through occurred kept it from relatively less worn than the rest of the coin.
If you look at the macro shot you can see a perfect circle in the center of the curl of the object which I didn't notice before.

@coinhi, Very nice Mont6cello struck through. I need to know how you made pics show raised instead of incuse I have one I need to show raised as well, is it our eyes or is it possible? Been researching  for answer  Thanks, Bj

If you look at the know, in relief features in the photo like the C of Monticello and the way the light hits it then the illusion of the anomaly being in relief can disappear. Very cool strike through !
