An interesting struck through looking feature on the reverse which resembles a 6 or 9 but maybe it's just a random piece of metal. The 9 (Date) seems to somewhat match but a close comparison gives me doubts. I'm open to ideas on this one so fire away. Thanks for looking!

Looks like a struck thru metal error and has a weak strike noting Jefferson's temple.

Interesting!

Another coin where I question why it wasn't pulled from circulation long before it reached this level of wear.

Thanks gang!

Yokozuna- I thought the same thing, also the fact that the area where the struck through occurred kept it from relatively less worn than the rest of the coin.

If you look at the macro shot you can see a perfect circle in the center of the curl of the object which I didn't notice before.

in the final photo the anomaly looks raised, is that indeed the case?

Nice find...I think the last photo just plays with your perception. I too thought it looked raised.

If you cut the overhead light and get light hitting from one side sometimes this effect happens. I wasn't attempting to do that here though.

If you look at the know, in relief features in the photo like the C of Monticello and the way the light hits it then the illusion of the anomaly being in relief can disappear.
Very cool strike through !
