Found in change need opinions I've dealt with clad layers missinh but plating errors are new to me thanks for all opinions1985-D-Lincoln-Cent-Possible-Partial-Copper-Plate-Missing.

Probably altered with a cigarette lighter. Zinc is exposed.

@ zeph, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm not so sure that you have a mint error here. Rather, it looks to me like chemical exposure has partially removed the plating from a normal cent.

Thanks for the welcome appreciate your replies I was just wondering.i know clad layers on 2006 quarter dollar sold to coin shop about 15 years ago for 60 dollars ,it weighed 1 gram less than regular coin not great shape but nice profit for 7 eleven change that morning

This comes up a lot here on CCF. Most replies are PMD from a cigarette lighter. I have a few in my collection because I have seen and read that there are some that are errors in plating. I think you should keep it until you/we know for sure. It is only costing you 1¢.
