I just now found this 1971 D Lincoln Memorial cent. What type of error is this?

does not look like an error. It seems to be environmental toning. (Unless you are seeing something else, please point it out)

Sharper pics would help. Maybe it's an optical illusion, but Lincoln's face almost looks eaten away.

I think this coin has acid damage or even has been in the ground and cleaned up. Note how the face has been eaten away and over all surface as well.

Please explain what you are seeing as an error so we aren't guessing.
If you are referring to the colour, discolouration is not an error.

Probably a bit light in weight. (Normal 3.11 grams)

Environmental damage. Looks like it had a rough life.

Looks more like a mild acid, like soda was used on this coin for a while altering the surface of the coin. Spender or save for copper.

Given the images posted, I'm going with exposure to an acidic environment. May have been roughly cleaned after the expose.
